No I intended to sell the Z before buying the WRX. What won me over was many, many things. the price ( 23K$ and change with upgraded security system and rear wing options )4 doors ( needed, a requirement for my family )the fact that it is awd, turbo'd ( ie can be easily modded for more power, very quick off the line ), front and side airbags ( protection for the family )has a fantastic reputation ( I have been a rally fan for well over a decade and have eagerly awaited the WRX and EVO 7 coming here )and all the reviews of the car have been raves. I test drove one and fell in love on the spot. The handling is superb, the steering, shifter, driver position, seats, pedal position ( perfect heel&toe setup ) are all superior to the Z for me. The car is an absolute blast to drive, I personally love the looks ( looks tough, not pretty but purposeful/racy/rally car looks )and very comfortable for long trips ( the Z definitely is not, at least for me ). Nothing comes close to the WRX in performance in a new 4 door car for under 40K$ and I can build mine into a 12 sec daily driver for a total investment of less than 30K$...Even though my Z is way faster, I have had no desire to drive it at all since I picked up the WRX a month ago, that pretty much says it all. It is a lot more fun actually having challenging races and losing a few here and there...The Z was getting boring in that in 6 years only 2 or 3 cars actually beat me or gave me a hard time..that really isnt too challenging or much fun for me personally. When the Evo 7 comes next year, we will sell the Maxima and purchase one for the wife.
